News; Southbound Festival

SOUTHBOUND SOLD-OUT…AND MORE ACTS ANNOUNCED!

Summer means music, culture and the great outdoors. Summer means Southbound.

And we’re excited and humbled to announce that the fourth annual Southbound Festival has completely sold out in record time!

We salute you WA for embracing your very own Music, Camping and Arts Festival.

But the work is not finished yet! After unleashing our finest line-up of talent yet, Sunset Events is proud to announce another round of superb acts in Base Camp for Southbound campers as well as a festival-wide eclectic explosion of visual art, circus performances, dance, experimental art and more, making Southbound 2008 the ultimate ‘festival’ experience – in the purest sense of the word.

BASE CAMP

BIG TOP

Snuggling up alongside The Waifs, The Beautiful Girls, Lior and Angus & Julia Stone for the stripped back Friday night performance under the Big Top in Base Camp will be none other than alt-country indie maestros New Rules For Boats and the mighty power of Abbe May & The Rockin’ Pneumonia. Also, we’re chuffed to announce that after more than 260 entries Institut Polaire have been selected as the winner from the Sonicbids entries to play the Big Top.

CARNIVALE STAGE

Returning to Southbound 2008 is the Carnivale Stage, featuring talent from across the great artistic divide. Laugh to larrikins, circus to comedy – the Carnivale Stage will be the centre of festivities on Friday night featuring, among others, hip-chick breakdance and hip hop crew Magnetic Dance FX, the Rio percussion flavour of WASAMBA, a fusion of traditional African and contemporary dance from Organikdance, the manic and bizarre antics of the sword swallowing, chainsaw juggling Matty Blades and so much more. Also, watch your step around the festival – many of these crazies may pop up anywhere as part of our Roving Performer program.

SOUTHBOUND CINEMA

The outdoor cinema will also return to Base Camp on both Friday and Saturday nights with an inspired collection of films from around the globe, including WA short films from SPLIF, the full-length feature The Treasures Of Long Gone John, sci-fi US/French collaboration Electroma, Japanese (Daft Punk) sensation Interstella 555 and plenty more pop culture flicks. All you need to do is open your eyes!

GROOVE TENT

What’s a festival without a good ol’ fashioned boogie? We agree, and that’s why we’ve drafted the finest instigators of bottom-shaking this side of the solar system for the Groove Tent. The Debauchery Bros, Sawami Adima, Charlie Bucket, Pussy Shoogah, Namu, Loco Ren, Sammy J…need we say more?

LOUNGE/OPEN MIC

A brand new initiative, we’ve gathered the finest crooners of the intimate stage to garrison the Lounge/Open Mic stage in Base Camp all through Friday as campers arrive to help get them into the festival swing, as well as DJs on Saturday night as camper’s return from the main festival. Alongside the growling Abbe May, get your tapping toes ready for Bilsby, Jim Pearson, B Still and so many more. Or maybe get up and have a tinker yourself. The stage is yours!

KARAOKE

That’s right…karaoke is back. Shrug off those inhibitions and take hold of the mic. You know you want to.

HEALING CIRCLE

The Southbound Festival isn’t simply about watching the talent. It’s about getting involved! And we’re as proud-as-punch to be able to initiate the Healing Circle workshops, where you get a chance to learn from the source – whether it be juggling, drumming or dance. Get involved and add your talents to the artistic kaleidoscope that is the Southbound Festival. Saturday morning healing classes include yoga, tai chi and other free chilled-out group classes.

MAIN FESTIVAL

THE OTHER STAGE

On Saturday we’re thrilled to welcome into The Other Stage (now, don’t get that mixed up with This Stage) in the main festival ground the esteemed DJ services of legendary Austrian-born, Aussie residing Nick Toth, DJ Gorky (all time party DJ from the bombastic Bonde Do Role) and Aussie beat sensation Muscles. Plus expect a manic VJ feast to accompany the sweet sounds!

SONICBIDS

We’re a little thrilled to announce that The Paper Scissors have been chosen from over 260 Sonicbids entries as the winner to perform at the main festival, alongside the StageBound and Triple J Unearthed winners, who will both be announced in December. The Paper Scissors are damn fine…get in early and check them out.

COCONUT CLUB

It’s all in the name friends! The Coconut Club (presented by Beach Suite) in the main festival ground on Saturday is where to go for your dizzy fix of mayhem and tomfoolery, spiced with chilled beats and shaken grooves. Catch, among others, Sharif Galal (Suite Musique), Micah, Swami Adima, Charlie Bucket, Phil Cooker and many more. Come and enjoy a fresh fruit mocktail whilst grooving under the palm trees on the beach sand dancefloor. Talk about decadence.

The fourth annual, all-ages Southbound Festival is supported by Triple J.

News: Rollercoaster Festival Announced

MAJOR EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT!!

The Third Annual
ROLLERCOASTER
MUSIC CARNIVAL
Saturday 29 December 2007: Mandurah : Western Australia

The 007 edition of ROLLERCOASTER is once again the hidden jewel of this year’s festival season.

It’s a diamond of an event that’s sparkles on the Mandurah Foreshore every year between Xmas and New Years and this year is

no exception.

ROLLERCOASTER is now in it’s third year and is becoming an iconic show in the WA calendar because of it’s simple an effective formula; an event with an awesome line up, a well priced ticket, a beautiful location, a generous grassy venue and all on offer at a time of year where people are relaxed, happy and ready to party.

Sweet!

Another defining feature of ROLLERCOASTER is that it isn’t afraid to rock! Most festivals have reverted to gentler line ups these days but ROLLERCOASTER bucks the trend by embracing music with attitude, energy and an edge to put some yay in your day, some zing in the thing and more power per hour than any other annual outdoor event.

The line up this year is a corker – a heady mix of Australian and international, new and established, great AND awesome bands. Without further ado, here it is!

HILLTOP HOODS
Talk about ending the party with a bang! Australia’s undisputed kings of hip-hop play their first show in WA since the release of the restrung version of their platinum selling HARD ROAD album.

Here come the Hoods!! Bringing incendiary beats and rhymes with a string section in tow.

THE BLACK KEYS
Direct from Akron, Ohio USA – this incredible 2 piece blues/rock band are four albums into their career and are one of the most smokin’ live bands in the world. Primal rhythms, tough and soulful vocals and a warm buzzsaw guitar with deep blues grooves served raw! They’ve completely sold out their trips to WA in the past and this is a chance to see them in full flight after the WA summer sun dips over the horizon.

SHIHAD
Back on the buzz with a new record about to explode…SHIHAD never disappoint and are the living definition of rock and roll itself.

Driving guitars, pounding beats and the lean, mean rock and roll machine Johnny Toogood out front ignoring the risks associated with putting 1000% into a rock and roll show. Killer!!

JEBEDIAH
WA’s legends and one of most successful bands of all time are back for a special festival appearance.

They’ve been deep in rehearsals and writing since front man Kevin Mitchell aka Bob Evans finished extensive touring for his gold selling solo effort of 2006 and will play all the hits and a guaranteed sing along with their trademark bouncy brand of zingy guitar pop.

KISSCHASY
Dominating the place where punk meets rock in Australia – ROLLERCOASTER’s old pals Kisschasy make a welcome return to the Mandurah Foreshore for the 2007 event off the back of their huge HYMNS FOR THE NONBELIEVER album.

The quiet achiever on the Australian live circuit at the moment – watch the pit go when they crank up!!!!!

BIRDS OF TOKYO
One of WA’s most successful independent bands of the moment they’ve been congesting request lines on all respectful radio stations around the country and jamming rooms nationally all year off the back of their DAY ONE album .

Their powerhouse live delivery and the commanding presence and delivery of frontman Ian Kenny means that if anyone is going to reach out to the Rollercoaster faithful….the Birds will do it!

ASH GRUNWALD
Host of JJJ’s popular Roots and All programme – this magnetic, down-to-earth and smokin’ blues maestro will bring us all together early as we laze around the grass and get a dose of killer blues.

Plus more great local WA acts still to be announced

——————————————————————————————————————————————————
So ROLLERCOASTER is back with an awesome line up in it’s majestic location with it’s greatest line up to date.

As usual, expect a day that feels like a killer outdoor rock show combined with a great party and a classic Aussie barbeque.

Thrills and spills all day long where music and magic meets the sea!!
